Smart Locks and Keypads in the Las Vegas Heat

A smart lock solves lost keys and shared access, but it adds batteries, wifi and software. Choose one with a key override or a power port. We install it, set the codes with you and test the key backup.

Three Things to Check First

  1. Does it have a physical key or a power port for backup?
  2. Can you set guest codes without handing out a key?
  3. What does the manual say about the temperature range?

Schlage describes backup access with either a physical key or a jumpstart port for temporary power.

Plan for the Heat

Current Results, using NOAA normals for 1991 to 2020, lists the average July high at 105 degrees and the low at 82. A keypad on a door that faces the afternoon sun lives in that heat. Look up your rating and set a battery reminder.

If the Door Needs Changes

Some smart locks need changes to the door before they fit. We quote that before starting, so you can decide.

Good to Know

What happens if the battery dies?

Try the key override or the power port if your lock has one. If that fails, call us. A dead keypad is a common call, and new batteries often fix it.
